We don't get snow around here very often so when it does everyone screams like a giddy schoolgirl, news
broadcasters post dramatic headlines like "Winter Blast 2012" and send
reporters out in toques and
mittens to show the trapped viewers at home how dangerous and
treacherous it is outside while using words like 'dangerous' and
'treacherous' and every year it makes me think of this parody video, enjoy.
It only snowed about a half inch here and less than a skiff elsewhere, hardly a winter blast at all. I grew up with snow and had to shovel snow from the roof of the house, dig out my car and have driven over mountain passes in whiteouts so it is somewhat amusing when an inch of snow here shut down schools and creates a state of emergency.
I guess the people of Fiji might even find some educational value in it. Things explained, today's lesson: Snow.
ReplyDeleteNow that's funny, thanks.
DeleteSnow eh... I guess it sucks to be you at the moment, no riding and all. We have year round riding here, makes our winter look like a cool breeze.
ReplyDeleteMy bike is in the shop so if it's going to snow now is the best time.
DeleteThis reporter isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer is he? OH the sensationalism of news. It's probably a good thing his face was half covered by his scarf & hood because this would not be good on a demo reel - most news directors would say "Thanks for your interest, but we have others more talented & qualified". We have a skiff here right now, where I come from real snow is 10+ feet.
ReplyDeleteI learned something! All these years I've been leaving the house. I guess I need to stop doing that until the snow is gone...
ReplyDeleteHmmmnn. That is different. Did I miss something? When did you go pink and why?
ReplyDeleteI went pink on December 21st for the Winter Solstice. I change my theme and header photo every three months with the change of seasons, my next change will be the first day of Spring March 20th.
DeleteTroubadour how did you add the reply function? I can't find this gadget anywhere.....Help.
ReplyDeleteAre you using the newest interface of blogger, where you can view stats, etc? It's called threaded comments. Go into 'design' at the top of your main screen, then choose 'settings' from the left hand column, set your blog feed to 'full' then click 'posts and comments' and in the comments section where you have it set to 'pop up window', change it to read 'embedded'. I believe that's it, good luck.

I have noticed that some blogs now don't work properly. Yours and Sonja's are examples where iPad keyboards freeze and laptop mice cease to operate properly. The things these blogs have in common? The newest Blogger interface, which looks like it may have more bugs than Wikileaks
ReplyDeleteI would have typed more in my comment above, but couldn't as my iPad keyboard froze when hitting the backspace key. I am going to steer clear of the new interface until the bugs are removed. Anyone else noticed this problem?
ReplyDeleteI notice this if I am on the mobile version of the site. If I go to the full site, the problem seems to go away.
DeleteAre you sure it's an iPad issue, not a blogger issue?
DeleteI have problems with your blog from both my iPad and my laptop. They are different problems. I will keep an eye on this and let you know. I had te same problems with Sonja's blog in te last few days as well.
DeleteI had problems just now, typing that previous comment. Basically, when using my iPad, if I make a typo and try to correct it by moving the cursor to somewhere inte text other than the end, then the keyboard locks up. It dd this just now on that previous post.
ReplyDeleteYou've obviously mistaken me for an Apple Genius Bar tech support, although I appreciate the compliment, I'm sorry, I cannot help you ;)
DeleteHave you tried turning it off and on?
Actually, I have had a lot of problems commenting when using either the iPhone or the iPad on quite a few of the sites. I had to turn off the "New and Improved" Blogger interface as even writing posts was problematic. I generally have to "click" out of the text box so the virtual keyboard goes away then back to continue editing or typing a comment or a post.
DeleteBack to the topic...loved the video. That is about the exact news stories here when they think it might snow. Glad you will live through snow-pocalypse.
ReplyDeleteNow we're flooding, people are being evacuated from their homes, a car was swept into a creek where a mother and her infant son died in the accident. A 5-year-old boy remains in critical condition. Roads are closed, the sheriff came into our work yesterday asking for empty grass seed bags to use for sandbags and we are just in awe as we ourselves are not familiar with flooding. We are not in the floodplains so we are safe but it is interesting to see. I'll post a blog on it tonight as a journal entry.
