OSU Visibility Day

I posted in previous years about the OSU Visibility Day and this year is no different... including the rain. The event is to help show the students, faculty and staff that motorcycles are on campus and to make them aware of motorcyclists and answer any questions they may have. It also allows riders to safely park their bikes in the quad all day while they attend class or work knowing their bikes are secure under the watchful eyes of the volunteers.

Team Oregon also attends the event every year and as I usually take the day off from work to attend I was available to represent as an instructor this year. We set up the tent and talked to people about rider training, classes, bikes and answer any other questions while encouraging them to sign up.

There were 49 bikes and too many people walking through to and from class to count with several of them stopping to ask what's going on?




And what's a motorcycle event without umbrella girls?





It was another successful event and I look forward to attending again next year, rain or shine.

    Awesome way to raise awareness! I helped one of the instructors from my riding school set up a twitter acct today so they can tweet to local riders about safety and course availability for scooters & bikes. Very cool tat you are attending as an instructor!

      I'm beyond help when it comes to twitter. I've attended the event the last three years just to hang out, it was great to be constructive this year.

      Troubadour - twitter is easy peasy, actually easier than blogging. My riding school has been tweeting course availability and info, which has been great.

      We enjoy it, the bikes are parked in one of the busiest sections of campus so it really grabs people's attention wondering what's going on.

    Well, it sure beats sitting in an office staring at a computer. That really does sound like a great event to have on campus though a sunny day wouldn't hurt. How do you measure success for this type of event?

      Sunny days do make it more enjoyable, this will be the third rainy year in a row. How do you measure success? All we can do is talk to students and raise awareness. We hope they recognize their classmates, professors, friends and neighbors as motorcyclists and watch out for us.

    What a great idea and turnout - well done! Some nice looking hardware there. I had a K100 exactly like Bob's - great bike.

      It is a great idea, I don't know if RickRick started it or not but he's been heading it up for the last 8 years.
      Bob found a great low mile bike, rarely rides in the rain and takes very good care of his bikes so this one will stay pristine.

      Contact the higher ups at the universities and Texas MSF to see if they are up for an event like this. It is a lot of fun and really raises motorcycle awareness before the Memorial Day long weekend.
